Welcome Message from Mayor Jean Rosenfield
As we celebrate another stellar year of progress, we proudly reflect on this community's great past, and confidently look to the future with great hope and high aspirations.
From the very beginning, in 1946, the founders of Bal Harbour Village thoughtfully master-planned this model community. Subsequently elected officials have continued this tradition of careful and responsible planning in order to preserve and maintain the charm of our community for generations to come.
Bal Harbour Village is known locally and internationally as a beautiful and safe place to live and visit. In less than a square mile, we have one of the world's best beaches, the world renowned Bal Harbour Shops, some of the country's most spectacular single and multi-family residences and oceanfront resorts that welcome visitors from all over the world.
The Village offers exceptional public services while also having one of the lowest ad valorem millage rates in Miami-Dade County. Our police department is one of the best equipped, trained, and prepared small-city departments, and our low crime rate is a testament to the fine work of our police officers. Our public works department works very hard to keep the Village looking great at all times. Bal Harbour Village is the envy of many, and sets an example for what can be accomplished with cooperation between government and its citizens.
This is a very exciting time for Bal Harbour. Our intimate enclave has become even more exclusive with the recent opening of the One Bal Harbour Resort and Spa. This is the first hotel built in the Village in more than 50 years and serves as the spectacular northern gateway to this unparalleled destination that we call home. The One Bal Harbour Resort and Spa features 124 rooms and executive suites, a signature restaurant, 1Bleu, overlooking the ocean, and the first Guerlain Spa in North America.
For more than 50 years, The Sheraton Bal Harbour graced the Village’s coastline, originally opening in 1956 as the Americana Bal Harbour. The hotel was demolished in November of 2007 to make way for the new St. Regis Resort & Residences, which will feature three 27-story all-glass towers rising above nine acres of lushly landscaped gardens, scheduled to debut in 2011.
It is my privilege to serve as your representative on the Village Council, especially at such an important and exciting time of positive change. My family and I are extremely proud to call Bal Harbour Village our home, and I will continue to carry out the proud traditions of those before me with each passing day. We owe it to future generations to be good stewards of our special Village.
Bal Harbour is known as the jewel-in-the-crown of Miami's municipalities - for so many great reasons - and we should all be proud to celebrate together our rich past and the exciting future on the horizon.
On behalf of the Council, the Manager and Village staff, it's my pleasure as your Mayor to extend warm greetings to the residents, merchants and neighbors of our community.
Sincerely,
Mayor Jean Rosenfield
